Brentwood
Brentwood is an historic ‘thoroughfare’ town that developed on the crossroads of the Essex Great Road and the pilgrim route to Canterbury. The town as we know it today took shape after the railway arrived in 1840.
On display at Brentwood Museum are hundreds of household items reflecting everyday life in what became a comfortable dormitory town. But there are also reminders of Brentwood’s military and industrial past and items from its famous schools and hospitals. More..
What’s On
Our new exhibition ‘Going Somewhere’ will open on the 6 Apil 2024. The museum is open on the first full weekend of each month. Come and visit and see the latest exhibition and our permanent collection.
Each month the Brentwood Museum Society holds a monthly talk in the Gwendoline Lewis Room of Shenfield Parish Hall. Full details and schedule can be found on our What’s On page.

All donations welcome.
Opening Times
The Museum will reopen on 6 April 2024.
The museum opens on the first full weekend of the month on the following days and times.
Saturday 6 April, Sunday 7 April and Monday 8 April. Saturday 4 May, Sunday 5 May and Monday 6 May. Saturday 1 June, Sunday 2 June and Monday 3 June. Saturday 6 July, Sunday 7 July and Monday 8 July. Saturday 3 August, Sunday 4 August and Monday 5 August. Saturday 7 September, Sunday 8 September and Monday 9 September. Saturday 5 October, Sunday 6 October and Monday 7 October.
On Saturday and Sunday we're open from 2.30 to 4.30. On Monday we're open from 10.30 and 12.30.
We are also open for group visits by appointment.

About Us
The Brentwood Museum society was founded in 1977 and acquired its present building in Lorne Road cemetery in 1985. We opened to the public in 1989 and since then have continued to open regularly during the summer months.
Education & Group Visits
We provide group visits on demand. These visits allow us to focus on a particular aspect of the museum or Brentwood history that's of interest to your group and provides a chance to explore the museum.
Become a Member
Become a member of the Brentwood Museum Society and enjoy free historical talks and other events including a summer party and Christmas festivities. Membership is just £20 per year.
Volunteers
